What You Need to Know about the SCORE Act
By Hannah Ballowe
On Friday, House Republicans delayed a vote on the Student Compensation and Opportunity through Rights and Endorsement (SCORE) Act.
But what is the SCORE Act? And what does it do?
The SCORE Act is a proposed law to make Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) laws the same across all 50 states. Here’s a few things the SCORE Act will do:
Set standards for direct payment to student-athletes
Guarantee post-injury medical coverage
Guaranteed scholarships
Allow student-athletes to hire agents
Ban employee status for student-athletes, meaning college athletes are not considered employees
Require schools to be more transparent about their athletic funding
